Songwriter and performer, Gilbert LAFFAILLE was born in Paris in 1948. He studied Literature and become a French teacher.He left education and worked as a tourist guide for several years (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, …)
He recorded his first album in 1977, came to the attention of Claude NOUGARO, performed with Gilles VIGNEAULT, is then on stage several times at the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris and, since then, has continuously toured in France and abroad, including at the Olympia in 1995 and the Bataclan in 1996.
He has written and put to music over a hundred and fifty songs, recorded twelve studio albums, three live alums, published two short story collections and two illustrated albums for children.
He is also the author and performer of humoristic sketches which he regularly gives on stage.
His songs have been performed by numerous artists
 : Francesca Solleville, Michel Fugain, Chanson Plus Bifluorée, Romain Didier, Allain Leprest, Véronique Pestel, Entre-deux-caisses, Les Octaves, etc. as in France as well as by :  Fernando Marquès (Portugal), Barbara Talheim (Germany), Alessio Lega (Italy) Denis Alber (Switzerland), Guillermina Motta (Catalonia), Christiane Stefanski (Belgium), Naomi and Aoyama Keiko (Japan).
His texts are regularly used for the study of the French language in schoolbooks throughout the world.
During his career he has been the recipient of numerous awards, most notably the Belgian Spa Grand Prix, the « Prix de la Presse Internationale », the Prix Raoul Breton (Sacem, the French Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music), the Prix de l'Académie du Disque Français, the Grand Prix Disque of the Charles Cros Academy. 
He is Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France.
NEWS : He is currently working on a play while continuing to perform his show « Le Jour et le Nuit » introduced at the Européen in 2013. While on tour he has systematically performed with Nathalie Fortin on Piano and Jack Ada on guitar.
